Starting from 15th October 2024, creators can now upload Shorts up to 3 minutes long, allowing for longer, more engaging content.
What is the new feature?
Any vertical or square video up to 3 minutes will be automatically classified as Shorts. These videos will be eligible for the Shorts revenue-sharing model.
Automatic Shorts Classification
You can't shoot 3-minute Shorts directly via the Shorts Camera in the mobile app yet. But you can upload longer clips through YouTube Studio, available on desktop and mobile.
How to Upload 3-Minute Shorts?
If your Short (over 1 minute) contains claimed third-party material, YouTube will block it globally and prevent it from being monetized.
Monetisation Rules You Must Know
Shorts under 1 minute with third-party material will remain unaffected by the new rules.
