Should you eat iodised salt?

The common mistake that everybody makes that everybody makes is to identify iodine as the culprit.

It is high levels of sodium that one must avoid. And sodium is present in all kinds of salt.

How does excess sodium affect you?

Extra sodium adds water into your blood vessels, increasing the total blood volume, leading to bloating and weight gain.

This courses through the blood vessels, increasing blood pressure. Over time, high blood pressure may weaken the blood vessel and speed up plaque build-up.

"We should have iodised salts, otherwise we cannot meet out iodine requirements on a daily basis," said Dr. Priyanka Rohatgi, Chief nutritionist, Indraprastha, Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi.
