New CBI Chief Praveen Sood: An IITian, IIM Grad, and a Maverick

DIRECTOR FOR TWO YEARS

Praveen Sood has been appointed by the government as the director of Central Bureau of Investigation for a period of two years.

HIGHLY EDUCATED

Sood, who was set to retire later this year, has graduated from the best colleges and universities. Here's a list.

IIT-DELHI

Hailing from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, Sood completed his graduation from IIT- Delhi, one of the premier institutes in India.

IIM-BANGALORE

In 2003, he took a sabbatical for pursuing Post Graduation in Public Policy and Management from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY

During this period, he also studied in Maxwell School of Governance, Syracuse University, New York.

IPS AT 22

At a young age of 22, Sood joined IPS in 1986 and started his career as Asstt. Superintendent of Police, Mysore in 1989.

MANY PORTFOLIOS

He has served many roles, including SP of Bellary and Raichur; DCP, Law and Order, Bengaluru; Police Advisor to Government of Mauritius; Commissioner of Police of Mysore; and finally Director General & Inspector General of Police, (Head of Police Force) Karnataka

STILL 'NALAYAK'?

Months before winning the Karnataka elections, Congress leader DK Shivakumar called DGP Praveen Sood a "nalayak" and vowed action against him once his party formed government.

CONTROVERSIES

DKS alleged in March that Sood was favouring the BJP in Karnataka and registered 25 cases against Congress, and zero against the saffron party.
