England cricket team seems to be in trouble before the ODI World Cup 2023. A star player, Jason Roy, has decided to play for another team. Due to star players’ injuries, the England cricket team is under stress. The team may suffer another setback in the Ireland series before the Ashes. As a matter of fact, there is evidence that a top player may now leave his country’s team and play consistently for another team.
According to a source, Jason Roy, who played 116 ODIs and 64 T20Is for England, may quit his core contract with the ECB. Roy helped England win the 2019 ODI World Cup. Los Angeles Knight Riders have now offered Roy a two-year contract of 3.06 crores (£300,000).
Roy decided to leave England’s core contract since the ODI World Cup is in India this year and he may be replaced.
The ECB has Jason Roy, who played well for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023, until October. Roy may terminate his T20 deal. He’ll be the first cricketer cut from England’s core contract if he does. In the 2019 World Cup, Jason Roy, a key member of Eoin Morgan’s England team, batted well. His opening hitting helped England win their first title. He missed last year’s T20 World Cup.
Roy returned for the ODI series against Australia, South Africa, and Bangladesh. He made a century against Bangladesh. He was an ODI World Cup 2023 contender because of this. USA Major League Cricket will correspond with the County Championship and T20 Blast. Roy may only receive ECB NOC if his October contract is canceled.
The LA Knight Riders signed Aaron Finch, Quinton de Kock, and Anrich Norkhia before Roy. The source states that the ECB has assured Jason Roy that this decision would not influence his selection plans or his October contract. Since Roy hasn’t played Tests since 2019, England won’t play white-ball matches until September. Roy may return for the August-September matches against New Zealand and Ireland after the Ashes.
Joffra Archer was also reportedly offered a similar deal by Mumbai Indians (IPL team). LA Knight Riders have offered Roy. Kolkata Knight Riders is this group’s IPL team. Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla own it. Four of the six Major League franchises this summer have IPL teams. Teams offer 3.06 crores. England’s The Hundred pays 1.27 crores (1.25 lakh pounds). England cricket may lose more than this.
