Suresh Raina makes surprising revelation about MS Dhoni & his conversation regarding this player.
The IPL team Chennai Super Kings is undoubtedly one of the most popular teams of the league and it created history in the recently concluded IPL 2023 by winning its fifth IPL title with which it has become the joint most successful team of the tournament. MS Dhoni has also become the joint most successful skipper of the IPL after winning his fifth IPL title, the other joint most successful skipper is Rohit Sharma under whose captaincy Mumbai Indians has won the league five times.
Before the IPL 2023, CSK won the IPL 2021 and Suresh Raina, the former CSK cricketer who played an integral role in CSK’s success over the years, narrated an interesting incident in an interview. While having a chat with another former CSK player Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina stated that MS Dhoni took permission from him to include Robin Uthappa in the squad before the IPL 2021 final.
Suresh Raina said, “When MS Dhoni and I talked, I suggested to him that ‘you should try Robin Uthappa’. He (Dhoni) took permission from me to play you and I said to him that ‘he is the guy to give you the final, trust me’. MS Dhoni said that ‘see we have played since 2008 but I want to win this season. Now, you tell me what to do’. I said ‘play Robin at number 3 and make sure he is in the playing XI till final. If you win, CSK will win. Whether I play or him, Robin and Raina are same’.”
Suresh Raina was a part of four IPL winning CSK squad but before the mega-auctions, the franchise released him and didn’t even bother to bid for him and he went unsold in the auctions.
Robin Uthappa played a quick knock of 31 runs in 15 balls in the IPL final which was instrumental in CSK’s win.
