The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma won the Asia Cup 2023 after defeating the last time winners, Sri Lanka in the finals which was played yesterday at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. It was certainly one of the most comprehensive victories ever registered by team India as total 21 overs were bowled in the ODI and India won the match by 10 wickets.
Mohammed Siraj, the Indian pacer was the Player of the Match as he dismissed 6 Sri Lankan batters for 21 runs in his 7 overs and played an important role in wrapping up the Sri Lankan team at the score of 50 in 15.2 overs. The target of 51 runs was achieved by Indian openers Shubman Gill (27*) and Ishan Kishan (23*) in 6.1 overs and India became the new champion of Asia by winning the Asia Cup 2023.

This is what Mohammed Siraj said in the post-match presentation, “Last match against Sri Lanka I took the first 4 wickets but unfortunately could not get 5 then. I realized then after that, ‘jo nasseb mein hoga, wohi milega’ (Whatever is in my destiny, I will get it). I focused on line and length only and let ball do the rest. To be honest, in white ball cricket the ball initially swings and it did swing a lot today, there was a good amount of swing, and tried to let the batter play the drive and get wickets with the out-swinger, which I generally do not get, but it happened for me today.”
Kuldeep Yadav, the Indian spinner was adjudged as the Player of the Tournament.
