Dravid Silences Critics On Why Rohit & Virat Are Not Playing First 2 ODIs Vs Australia

The 3-match ODI series between India and Australia has started today with the first match being played at Mohali but there is a lot of discussion in regard to senior players (Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli) being rested for the first two ODIs. Many people feel that they should play each and every ODI as the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will start from 5 October and these two players should be in good momentum.

Before the start of the series, the head coach of Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid had an interaction with mediapersons and during this interaction, he revealed why Rohit and Virat were rested.

Rahul Dravid said, “People like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma specifically, from our perspective, it’s really important to get them to that World Cup in physically and mentally in the space that they want to be in. They know how they need to prepare themselves and lot of these decisions are made in discussions with them and senior and more experienced guys have their routines and know how they want to prepare in the lead up to a big event like the World Cup.”

The Wall, as his fans like to call him, further said, “I think based on those discussions, we come up with mutual decisions to just take off and refresh mentally more than anything else. Come back in Rajkot and then it will be a tough couple of months ahead for us.”

Rahul Dravid also hinted at rotating the Indian pacers as he said, “With our fast bowlers, you can see some of our boys are not playing, we would also like to rotate them a little bit. For others, it would be nice to give them three tough games before the World Cup.”

All the best to the Indian cricket team!
