The cricket fans saw one more upset in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as yesterday Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in the match which was played at MA Chidambaram stadium, Chennai.

Though Pakistan managed to put up a good total of 282/7 with the help of brilliant knocks of Abdullah Shafique (58 runs) and Babar Azam (74 runs) but the Afghanistan cricket team played fearless and confidently against one of the best bowling attacks of the world and chased the target with 8 wickets in hand and one over remaining in their innings.

Afghanistan got a good start as their openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65 runs) and Ibrahim Zadran (87 runs) put up a partnership of 130 runs for the first wicket and after they both got out, Rahmat Shah (77* runs) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (48* runs) ensured that their team registered their first ever victory over Pakistan in the ODI format.

Pakistan is also responsible for this defeat as their bowling was lackluster and their fielding was sloppy and now they have lost 3 matches out of 5 matches that they have played.

Not just Pakistani cricket fans but former Pak cricketers were also disappointed and angry after this defeat and former Pak cricketer Wasim Akram raised questions over the fitness levels of the Pak cricketers in a cricket show.

Wasim Akram stated, “It was embarrassing today. They chased 280-290 with 8 wickets in hand which is huge. They nullified the pitch factor completely. And just look at the fitness levels of our players. We have been screaming here for the past three weeks that they haven’t been through fitness tests in the last two years. Now should I name them individually, their faces are getting broader. Lagta hai roz 8 kilo nihari khate hain (It seems as if they eat 8 kilos of meat every day).”
