The defending champions, England are having a tough time in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as yesterday they lost their fourth match of the tournament against Sri Lanka which was played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
England has played five matches till now and it has lost four out of them, by all chances England will get knocked out of the tournament if it loses its next match which is against India and it will be played on 29 Oct (Sunday).
As far as the match is concerned, the toss was won by England and it chose to bat first but the whole team could manage only 156 runs in 33.2 overs. The highest scorer for the England cricket team was Ben Stokes (43 runs) and Sri Lanka successfully chased the target in 26 overs with the help of brilliant knocks of Patthum Nissanka (77* runs) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (65* runs). Sri Lanka won the match by 8 wickets and Sri Lankan bowler Lahiru Kumara was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his superb bowling (3/35) in 7 overs.
