The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is currently being played in India and you will be surprised to know that the performances of teams in this tournament will ensure whether they will be able to play in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Well, as per the statement issued by ICC, the top seven teams of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 along with the hosts Pakistan will be playing in the Champions Trophy 2025. ICC decided to bring back this tournament in 2021 as one of the eight global men’s tournaments and as per a report in a cricket portal, the qualification criteria for the Champions Trophy 2025 was also approved by ICC in the year 2021.
However, many boards are in shock after they came to know about this qualification criteria recently, as of now Bangladesh and England are at number 9 & 10, respectively. If you remember, after the England cricket team lost the match to India which was played yesterday, the England skipper Jos Buttler was asked whether he is aware of the qualification criteria for Champions Trophy 2023, he said, “Yeah, I’m aware of that. And absolutely, it just proves we’ve still got lots to play for.”
The cricket boards of West Indies, Zimbabwe and Ireland are also in for a rude shock as their teams didn’t even qualify for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
