The Indian cricket team suffered a humiliating defeat against South Africa in the first test match which was played at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium, Centurion. The Proteas won the match by an innings and 32 runs and senior South African cricketer Dean Elgar was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his superb knock of 185 runs.
The Proteas bowling attack was full of aggression and discipline and the Indian batters never looked comfortable in front of them. However, Virat Kohli (38 runs) looked in good touch and fans were expecting a big knock from him but he got out soon. KL Rahul won the hearts of Indian fans and the Indian cricket fraternity by playing a magnificent knock of 101 runs.
The South African batters were quite dominant as they posted a total of 408 runs in their first innings and the Indian bowlers were not able to control them just like their counterparts. While Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were disciplined and little bit effective, Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna’s bowling efforts were lackluster and R Ashwin also failed in making any impact with the ball.
The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was also not happy with Indian bowling and while doing commentary, he said, “India have to wake up. They are listless. I can understand on a hot day, an hour after Tea, but not on the first hour of a day.”
India certainly needs to wake up or they will lose the second test match as well.
