The leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Jitendra Awhad, created a stir on Wednesday when he claimed that Lord Ram was a “non-vegetarian.” The NCP leader’s remarks were captured on camera, and it caused a stir on social media from a variety of angles.
“We own Ram; he is a Bahujan. Ram was formerly a hunter and eater. You want us to give up meat and become vegetarians, but we think of him as our ideal. Speaking at a rally, Awhad stated, “He was not a vegetarian, but rather a non-vegetarian.
Jitendra Awhad also implied that Kshatriyas were customarily non-vegetarians by asking what Lord Ram, a Kshatriya, used to eat.
Awhad went on to say that there was an effort to make India a vegetarian country. He asserted that 80% of the people in the nation are still not vegetarians and that they are Lord Ram enthusiasts.
“What is the dispute over the food that Lord Ram consumed? Someone would say that since Lord Ram was a Kshatriya and Kshatriyas are not vegetarians, Lord Ram liked to eat methi-bhaji, or fritters made from fenugreek leaves. I wholeheartedly support what I stated. In addition to being non-vegetarians, 80% of Indians are followers of Lord Ram, according to Jitendra Awhad.
“If someone were to spend 14 years living in a forest, where would they go to find vegetarian food? Is it correct or incorrect? I always say the correct thing,” Awhad said. The BJP strongly objected to Awhad’s comments, denouncing them as offensive to Lord Ram.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam expressed his disapproval of Awhad’s comments on X, writing, “Shiv Sena’s Saamana newspaper would have criticized the ‘Ram non-vegetarian’ comment had Balasaheb Thackeray been alive.” But in the actual world of today, the Uddhav Sena does not seem to mind if someone makes fun of Hindus. They are apathetic and as frigid as ice. However, they will bring up Hindutva when the election time comes.”
“These comments about politics are unfortunate,” he stated. Meanwhile, Awhad’s divisive comments prompted the BJP to file a complaint against him. Awhad continued by stating that casteism was the true cause of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination since he was an Other Backward Category (OBC) member and people could not accept that he had grown to be such a powerful leader.
