The Indian cricket team will certainly miss the services of India’s best batter Virat Kohli, as he has pulled out of the first two test matches of the 5-match test series against England. Virat has cited personal reasons for pulling out of the first two matches and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested media and fans to respect the privacy of the cricketer and his family.
The former English cricketers Nasser Hussain and Kevin Pietersen have given their support to Virat Kohli. While writing a column for a leading daily, Nasser Hussain referred to Harry Brook who has also pulled out of the tour. Hussain wrote, “My first thought is that we wish Virat well. Like Brook, he has taken a step back for personal reasons, and everyone in the game should respect that. Some things are more important than cricket.”
However, Nasser Hussain also hopes that the England team will have some hope of winning the first two test matches because of Virat Kohli’s absence. He further wrote, “There’s no doubt that India, and the series, will miss him. Any team would suffer when a player of Kohli’s class drops out, and it gives England a glimmer of hope in the first two Tests of a series in which they begin as clear underdogs.”
Kevin Pietersen showed his support by making a tweet on X which read, “If a sportsman pulls out for personal reasons, RESPECT IT! End of!”
Well, we should also respect Virat Kohli’s decision.
