Some former England cricketers may be of the opinion that Rohit Sharma was not superior to Ben Stokes as a skipper despite India crushing England by 4-1 in the 5-match test series but Indian cricketers are in complete awe of Rohit Sharma as a leader.
Recently, Ravichandran Ashwin praised the Indian skipper for the manner in which he helped and supported the Indian spinner when his (Ashwin’s) mother was ill and now the youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has lauded his skipper.
Yashasvi was the Player of the Series as he was the highest scorer with 712 runs including two double centuries and during an interview, Yashasvi said, “It’s so good to have him (Rohit) there inside the dressing room. It has been great to play under him. There are a lot of moments which I don’t want to disclose at the moment.
Let it be with me. The way he backed players throughout this journey, the way he talks, the way he bats. Whatever happens, he will be there to stand by you. I think it’s incredible to see that in your leader. I will keep learning from him.”
Yashasvi said that nothing misses from the eyes of the Indian skipper and he is on a different level. Talking about the times when Yashasvi was not able to time his square drives correctly against England spinners, Rohit advised him to play straight. Yashasvi stated, “He (Rohit) came and told me that in that moment that shot is not on, it will be better to hit straight. So I was trying to hit straight. I must tell you nothing misses his eyes. He knows everything. That is the biggest quality. He is aware of things and what is going on. Alag level hai (He’s on a different level), it’s so fun to be around him.”
Now the Indian cricketers are gearing up for the IPL 2024 which is slated to start from 22 March.
