Finally, the big question has been answered; many used to wonder as to who will lead CSK after MS Dhoni will take retirement and yesterday the franchise announced that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the team going further.
MS Dhoni has been associated with CSK since 2008 and under his leadership, the Chennai franchise has won 5 IPL trophies.
MS Dhoni may have given up captaincy yesterday but he had hinted about Ruturaj Gaikwad being made captain in the last IPL. MS Dhoni knew that it is the right time for transition and a new skipper should take over the reins.
A video was uploaded by the IPL in which Ruturaj Gaikwad was heard saying, “I don’t think I need to change anything. Last year itself, Mahi bhai had just hinted about captaincy at some point of time. Just hinted ‘Be ready. It should not come as a surprise.’ And when he came into the camp, he made me get involved in some of the practice match simulations.
I remember him posting about the ‘new role’ on social media. Everybody was just pointing towards me and asking me whether you are the next captain. Maybe it meant something else but at the back of the mind, he knew. He came and said ‘I’ve decided this and this…’ But now that I am here, I am looking forward to it.”
