Murlikant Petkar wept after watching the Kartik Aaryan-starrer biopic for the first time

Murlikant Petkar, on whom Chandu Champion is based, was brought to tears at its premiere screening under Kabir Khan’s direction and Kartik Aaryan’s star power.

On Friday, June 14, Kartik Aaryan-starrer sports biopic Chandu Champion by Kabir Khan hits theatres. Based on the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medallist Murlikant Petkar (the real Chandu Champion himself was at its special screening).

Murliant Petkar watched Chandu Champion with Kartik Aaryan and Kabir Khan and was left teary-eyed as the end credits rolled. As viewers cheered the real champion of Chandu Champion, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety actor Murliant Petkar shared video footage from these special moments on his Instagram with the caption, “First screening of Chandu Champion with The Real Champion – Mr Murlikant Petkar of course!”

Murlikant joined the Indian Army to fulfil his Olympic dreams and became a boxing champion. However, nine bullet wounds in the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War caused paralysis which resulted in him turning into a swimmer for the Paralympic Games competition and earning gold as a swimmer.

Chandu Champion, jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan, stars Bhuvan Arora, Aniruddh Dave, Yashpal Sharma, Vijay Raaz, and Rajpal Yadav in leading roles. Kabir Khan previously directed critically acclaimed movies such as Kabul Express, and Ek Tha Tiger Phantom Bajrangi Bhaijaan 83 among others.
