Anil Arora, father of Bollywood actresses Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora, passed away in a tragic incident on Wednesday afternoon. According to Mumbai Police, he died by suicide after jumping from the terrace of his residence in Bandra, Mumbai. The family has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Top officers from the Mumbai Police arrived at the scene and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In a widely circulated video on social media, Malaika’s ex-husband, actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, was seen at the residence, speaking with the police and monitoring the situation. The police presence around the residence was significant, with officers ensuring privacy and maintaining order. An ambulance was stationed outside the building.
Sources reveal that Anil Arora’s ex-wife, Joyce Polycarp, spoke to the police, recounting how her ex-husband would regularly sit on the balcony and read the newspaper each morning. Though they were divorced, Joyce mentioned they had started living together again in recent years. On Wednesday morning, after noticing Anil’s slippers in the living room, Joyce searched for him on the balcony but did not find him there. She looked down and saw their building’s watchman calling for help. Joyce informed the police that Anil was not suffering from any serious illness, aside from some knee pain. Anil Arora had retired early from the Merchant Navy.
Malaika Arora previously shared that her parents separated when she was 11, and she and her younger sister Amrita who was 6 at the time, were raised primarily by their mother. Following the separation, Joyce relocated from Thane to Chembur with her daughters.
