Australia’s limited-overs specialist Glenn Maxwell is eagerly anticipating the much-awaited contest between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith as the two legendary batters prepare to face off in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, set to begin in November later this year.
Both Smith and Kohli have remarkable records against each other’s sides. However, Smith has been more prolific, scoring 2,042 runs in 19 Tests, six matches fewer than Kohli, who has accumulated the same number of runs in 25 Tests against Australia. The two batters boast impressive averages of 65.87 and 47.48, respectively.
Kohli has also performed well in Australia, scoring 1,352 runs in 13 Test matches, including six centuries and four fifties, at an average of 54.08. Speaking to Star Sports, Maxwell said, “I think probably the way that the two superstar batters, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, probably head-to-head, seeing how their dominance, I suppose, is asserted in the series and how much of an influence that has on who takes home the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. One of those two is going to make a lot of runs, if not both of them, and it’s going to be pretty exciting to watch the two of the finest players of our generation go head-to-head.”
The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy will feature a five-match Test series between India and Australia, with matches scheduled in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney from November 22, 2024, to January 7, 2025. India, the current title-holders, has retained the trophy during their last two tours Down Under.
