Janhvi Kapoor made headlines in Chennai on Tuesday as she speak Tamil in public for the first time during the promotion of her upcoming film Devara. The actress joined co-star Jr NTR and composer Anirudh Ravichander at a press conference. Before discussing the film, Janhvi addressed the media in Tamil, expressing gratitude for the love her late mother, Sridevi, had received from the people of Chennai.
“Chennai is very special to me. My best memories with my mom are from Chennai. The love you’ve showered her is the reason me and my family are here. I will always be indebted to you for that. I hope you show me the same love,” Janhvi said in Tamil, touching the hearts of those present. Her words left Jr NTR visibly impressed.
Janhvi Kapoor continued, “I promise I will work very, very hard for it. Devara is very special to me. I really hope, from the bottom of my heart, that you enjoy what we made.” When the host suggested she might soon star in a Tamil film, Janhvi enthusiastically replied, “I hope so.”
For those unfamiliar, Janhvi’s mother, the legendary actress Sridevi, was raised in Chennai and appeared in several Tamil films before transitioning to Bollywood.

Despite her move to Mumbai, Sridevi maintained a home in Chennai, where some family members still live. Janhvi, along with her father Boney Kapoor and sister Khushi Kapoor, often visits them.
Devara: Part 1 marks Janhvi Kapoor’s debut in Telugu cinema. The film, which also stars Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan, is set to release on September 27.
