James Gunn Reacts To Govinda’s Quirky Marvel-DC Crossover In Bollywood’s Dariya Dil

Even James Gunn, the director behind some of the biggest superhero films in the Marvel and DC universes, couldn’t help but be amazed by a surprising connection between the two superhero giants — courtesy of Bollywood star Govinda.

Gunn recently reacted to a viral scene from the 1988 Bollywood movie Dariya Dil, where Govinda, dressed as Superman, and Kimi Katkar, in a Spider-Man-inspired outfit, share a quirky on-screen moment. This unexpected crossover, long before official Marvel-DC collaborations, took social media by storm, and even Gunn joined in on the fun.

On his Instagram Stories, Gunn humorously posted a clip from the song Tu Mera Superman, where Govinda, in his signature style, takes on villains while romancing Kimi Katkar. Gunn, known for blending humor with superhero action, captioned the video with “DC (handshake emoji) Marvel,” poking fun at how Bollywood brought together these iconic characters decades ago.

In the scene, Govinda, dressed as Superman, punches a villain and saves Kimi Katkar’s character, who is clad in a Spider-Man-esque costume. The two then break into a dance routine in a park, providing a unique and humorous take on superhero action.

Despite the costumes, Govinda wasn’t portraying an actual superhero in the movie, as the costumes were used solely for the musical number.

Interestingly, Gunn’s reaction came shortly after he announced that filming for his upcoming Superman movie had wrapped. Starring David Corenswet as the young Clark Kent, the film is slated for release in 2025 and is one of the most highly anticipated projects in the DC Universe.
