The iconic film Taal, starring Aishwarya Rai, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special event in Mumbai. Directed by Subhash Ghai, the film is remembered for its memorable music and performances. At the event, Anil Kapoor shared some behind-the-scenes stories, including his nervousness before filming the climactic scene where his character, Vikrant, lets go of Mansi (played by Aishwarya Rai) and encourages her to be with Manav (played by Akshaye Khanna).
During the celebration, Anil Kapoor revealed how anxious he felt before shooting the pivotal scene in Taal. Vikrant’s emotional decision to let Mansi marry Manav takes place just before Vikrant and Mansi’s own wedding. Anil recalled feeling immense pressure, especially because Subhash Ghai often gave him important lines at the last minute. Anil confessed that he was so nervous that he almost didn’t show up on set. “I said I am not going to come on the set,” he shared, explaining that Subhash Ghai told him he didn’t need to come, but would still wait for him.
To cope with the anxiety, Anil Kapoor sought help from actress Padmini Kolhapure, asking her to perform reiki on him. He shared, “I was so stressed, so anxious and nervous. She came, she did reiki on me.” With her assistance, Anil was able to gather the strength to shoot the emotionally charged scene that remains one of the highlights of the film.
As part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations, Taal is set to re-release in theaters on September 27, 2024. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai expressed his excitement about the re-release, stating, “With the re-release, I’m thrilled that audiences can experience the magic of Taal all over again on the big screen.”
