World No. 1 Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made history on Monday, September 30, by becoming the third Indian cricketer to achieve the remarkable double of scoring 3000 runs and taking 300 wickets in Test matches. Jadeja accomplished this milestone during the second Test between India and Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur, by dismissing Khaled Ahmed in the first innings.
Khaled, the last Bangladeshi batter in the first innings, was caught and bowled by Jadeja, sealing the all-rounder’s place in this exclusive club. Before Jadeja, only two Indian cricketers had achieved this double — former captain Kapil Dev and legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Kapil Dev was the first Indian to achieve this feat, finishing his illustrious 131-match Test career with 5248 runs and 434 wickets. Ashwin, who reached the milestone in December 2022, has accumulated 3422 runs and 524 wickets in 102 matches to date.
In addition to joining this elite group, Ravindra Jadeja also became the first Indian left-arm spinner to take 300 wickets in Test cricket. Overall, he is the seventh Indian bowler to reach 300 or more dismissals in the five-day format.
India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in Tests is Anil Kumble, with 619 wickets in 132 matches. Ashwin holds the second spot with 524 wickets, while Kapil Dev ranks third with 434 dismissals. Other notable Indian bowlers who have taken 300 or more wickets include Harbhajan Singh (417 wickets in 103 Tests), Zaheer Khan (311 wickets in 92 Tests), and Ishant Sharma (311 wickets in 105 Tests).
Jadeja’s feat further solidifies his reputation as one of India’s most valuable all-rounders in the modern era.
