Director Imtiaz Ali recently praised the dedication and hard work of female actors in the Indian film industry, noting that they often face more challenging situations than anyone else. Specifically, he highlighted Deepika Padukone, applauding her for being exceptionally fast at getting ready on set and excelling in her work. Imtiaz, who first collaborated with Deepika on Love Aaj Kal and later on Cocktail—a major milestone in her career—described her as a “wonderful actor” and “amazing artist.” He also mentioned that Deepika easily steps into her role, even for simple scenes.
mtiaz emphasized how women in the industry, particularly the “heroines” or glamour figures, often have to start their workday hours earlier than others to prepare their looks and costumes. He added that they frequently work in uncomfortable conditions, such as shooting in cold weather while wearing minimal clothing, and often endure long hours with little sleep. “They work the hardest in the film industry,” he said.
While Deepika and Imtiaz Ali haven’t worked together since the 2015 film Tamasha, both have achieved success with their recent ventures. Deepika has starred in hits like Pathaan, Jawan, and Kalki 2898 AD, and Imtiaz has been praised for his Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila. Deepika’s next film, Singham Again, is set to release this Diwali.
On a personal note, Deepika Padukone and her husband, actor Ranveer Singh, recently welcomed their first child, a daughter. The couple shared the happy news on Instagram after her delivery at a hospital in South Mumbai.
