Fast bowling legend Dale Steyn has confirmed that he will not return as the bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, Steyn will continue his association with the Sunrisers franchise by working with their South African team, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, in the SA20 competition. The Eastern Cape team has been highly successful, winning both editions of the tournament so far.
Dale Steyn tweeted, “Cricket announcement. A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL, unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025. However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa. Two time winners here in SA20, let’s try make it THREE in a row”

Two time…
Steyn was notably absent from SRH’s IPL campaign last season after making himself unavailable. During that period, former New Zealand bowler James Franklin took over as SRH’s bowling coach. Despite Steyn’s absence, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a strong season, reaching the final. Steyn’s decision not to return for IPL 2025 leaves a vacancy in the coaching staff for the team as they prepare for the next season.
