Vijay Varma has opened up about the personal challenges he’s faced due to his portrayal of negative characters on screen. Speaking at the grand launch of SCREEN in Mumbai, the actor admitted that playing villainous roles has shaped how people perceive him in real life. Vijay shared that even “pretty girls and their mothers” have confessed to being scared of him, something that has troubled him. Known for his roles in Darlings, Pink, and the OTT series Dahaad, Vijay reflected on how these intense roles have made a lasting impression.
Vijay Varma recounted how his journey into playing “diabolical men” began with his role in Pink. Despite being a minor part, the character left a strong mark on audiences. He vividly remembered attending an all-women screening of the film and meeting actresses he had long admired. Vijay said, “Lots of pretty girls and their mothers have told me they are scared of me, and it did bother me. The introduction of extremely diabolical men that I played started with Pink.”
At the same screening of Pink, Vijay Varma had a memorable interaction with singer Sunidhi Chauhan, who was visibly shaken by his performance. Vijay recalled how, after the movie, many in the audience were moved to tears. “Before the screening, everyone was happy, but by the end, some were crying and some didn’t want to leave,” he said. When Vijay tried to console Sunidhi, she responded, “Don’t come near me. I’m very scared of you,” which left the actor stunned. The film’s director later reassured Vijay, praising his performance.
Vijay Varma’s career took a significant turn with his role as Moeen in Gully Boy (2019), which earned him widespread attention. Since then, he has become known for taking on intense and complex roles in films like Darlings (2022) and series such as She, Mirzapur, and Dahaad (2023), where he portrayed a serial killer. These performances have established him as a rising star in the Indian entertainment industry, despite the challenges his negative roles have brought to his public image
