Director Shoojit Sircar, known for his critically acclaimed films, recently revealed in an interview that he had been working on a biopic about legendary singer Kishore Kumar. However, after learning that director Anurag Basu was developing a similar project, Sircar decided to step aside and halt his plans.
Speaking in an interview, Shoojit Sircar shared that he spent over four years researching Kishore Kumar’s life, working closely with the late singer’s family.
He had even developed a draft for the script. However, when news broke that Anurag Basu was also working on a biopic, Sircar felt there was little point in continuing. He explained, “I didn’t think there was any point in two people doing the same thing. So that went on ice. Once you lose the momentum, it’s a big challenge to go back to it.”
Meanwhile, there are reports that Aamir Khan has been approached to play Kishore Kumar in Anurag Basu’s biopic. A source close to the project said, “The Kishore Kumar biopic is a subject close to the heart of Anurag Basu and Bhushan Kumar, and they aim to make it a spectacle. Aamir Khan, a big admirer of Kishore Kumar, is impressed by Basu’s vision and is intrigued by how the filmmaker plans to bring the singer’s life to the big screen.”
With two ambitious filmmakers passionate about the life of Kishore Kumar, the biopic is generating a lot of interest in Bollywood.
