Yashasvi Jaiswal Joins Elite Club Of Sunil Gavaskar & Gundappa Viswanath With This Feat

The young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, since making his international debut against the West Indies in July 2023, continues to shine as he joins cricketing legends Gundappa Viswanath and Sunil Gavaskar on an exclusive list.

On Saturday (October 26), the 22-year-old left-handed batsman achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming only the third Indian batter and the seventh globally to surpass 1000 Test runs in a calendar year in home matches.

Jaiswal achieved this milestone during India’s second innings in the ongoing second Test against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. Playing his first home Test on January 25, 2024, against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Jaiswal accumulated 1025 runs by lunch, scoring 46 runs off 36 balls by that time. This accomplishment marks Jaiswal’s ninth Test appearance in India this year.

In addition to joining this elite 1000-run club, Jaiswal also became the fastest Indian batter to reach 1000 Test runs on home soil, requiring just 1315 balls to cross the mark.
