Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a leading star in the South Indian film industry who has also captivated northern audiences with performances in projects like The Family Man and Citadel: Honey Bunny, recently shared her views on the longstanding North vs South cinema debate.
When asked why it took South Indian films time to gain recognition in the North, she explained, “I haven’t really considered why it took so long. However, one reason might be that while South Indians excel at filmmaking, we may not have been as adept at marketing. That could be a factor.”
Samantha Ruth Prabhu further highlighted the contributions of filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli in broadening the reach of South Indian cinema, particularly with the success of Baahubali. “Rajamouli Sir, through Baahubali, truly expanded the horizons for South Indian films. He was probably the first to recognize that this film had potential to soar. I am genuinely glad he saw that and helped open new doors,” she said.
During the interview, Prabhu also touched on her career trajectory, emphasizing her conscious effort to select roles that reflect women authentically in contemporary society. She stated that she aims to avoid stereotypical roles, appreciating the depth of her character in Citadel: Honey Bunny as a more meaningful portrayal.
