Jasprit Bumrah Confirms He Will Lead In Perth Test As Rohit Sharma’s Arrival Is Delayed

India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah will captain the team in the opening Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This announcement came during a pre-match press conference in Perth on Thursday (November 21). Bumrah steps into the role as regular skipper Rohit Sharma delayed his arrival in Australia due to the birth of his second child, a baby boy, on November 15.

During the conference, Bumrah shared insights into how the decision unfolded.

“I spoke to Rohit, but when we came here (Australia), then I got a little more clarity because he was also not sure about his situation at that moment. But yeah, when I came here, then the coach (Gautam Gambhir) and the management gave me the clarity that I’ll be leading in this game,” Bumrah revealed.

Jasprit Bumrah also hinted at Mohammed Shami’s possible return to the squad for the latter stages of the series. The senior pacer has resumed cricketing activities, and the management is closely monitoring his progress.

At 30, Jasprit Bumrah is no stranger to Australian conditions, having played pivotal roles in India’s back-to-back Test series victories in Australia. With his leadership and bowling prowess, India hopes to make a strong start in their quest for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
