In a bizarre turn of events, Cinepolis Centre Square Mall in Kochi left fans shocked during a screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule on Friday. The 6:30 PM show of the highly anticipated sequel only showcased the second half of the film, leaving viewers bewildered as the end credits rolled after what should have been the intermission of the 3-hour and 15-minute feature.
Disappointed fans, who had flocked to the theatre to watch the sequel of the 2021 blockbuster, were quick to voice their frustration. While some demanded a full refund, others insisted on viewing the first half of the film to better understand its narrative progression.
“We are in no mood to go back without watching the first half of the movie. At least then we can judge for ourselves how well the climax merges with the first half,” said Tony Chakiath, a fan and manager at a private firm who attended the screening with his Tamil Nadu-based boss.
Under pressure from persistent demands, the theatre eventually screened the first half of the movie at 9 PM. By then, only ten viewers remained to watch the full film. To placate customers, the theatre management also promised to issue refunds. However, many patrons were left unsatisfied as their plans to enjoy the cinematic experience uninterrupted were ruined.
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule picks up the story of Pushpa Raj, played by Allu Arjun, as he tackles new challenges in the perilous world of red sandalwood smuggling. The sequel deepens the rivalry between Pushpa and SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, portrayed by Fahadh Faasil, and sees the return of beloved characters such as Srivalli, played by Rashmika Mandanna. New additions to the cast include Jagapathi Babu in a pivotal role.
The sequel ends with an announcement of the third installment in the franchise, titled Pushpa 3: The Rampage. While fans eagerly await updates on the production, Allu Arjun has yet to disclose details about the filming schedule and cast.
