Ameesha Patel made her return to the big screen last year with Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma. She reprised her role as Sakina alongside Sunny Deol’s Tara Singh. The sequel follows their son Jeete, played by Utkarsh Sharma, who is now grown up and has a love interest. However, Ameesha was initially hesitant to play a mother-in-law on screen.
In a recent interview, Anil Sharma shared how he convinced Ameesha Patel to accept the role. He explained that Ameesha Patel struggled to adjust to the natural progression of her character. “She didn’t get the same screen time as in Gadar 1 and found it hard to accept that, with age, she would need to play Jeete’s mother and eventually a mother-in-law,” he said. He added, “While she works hard to maintain herself, actors must adapt. Even Nargis Dutt played a mother in Mother India when she was young.”
Ameesha had previously spoken about creative differences with Anil Sharma during the shoot of Gadar 2. She revealed that they would avoid speaking to each other on set. Despite their differing approaches to work, Ameesha clarified that she has the “utmost respect” for Sharma and that their professional disagreements have not affected their relationship.
