Poet Kumar Vishwas sparked controversy with a subtle remark about actor and Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha’s interfaith marriage. At a public event in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, he referenced the Ramayana, saying, “Teach your children Ramayana, make them read the Geeta. Otherwise, someone else might take away the Shri Lakshmi of your house even if the house is named ‘Ramayana’.”
His comment appeared to allude to Sonakshi’s marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal, which took place in June this year in a private ceremony. The connection was further fueled by the fact that Shatrughan Sinha’s house is named ‘Ramayana.’
Sonakshi’s marriage had already drawn attention, as it was reported that her brothers, Luv and Kush, did not attend the ceremony, indicating family disapproval of the union. The remark by Vishwas added to the ongoing discussions surrounding the marriage and its interfaith aspect.
