Has Rohit Sharma Already Played His Last Test Match For The Country?

The Indian cricket team is playing the fifth and the final test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 without their regular captain, Rohit Sharma as he has decided to take rest but there are reports which suggest that there will be no coming back for the Hitman in the longest format.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors have reportedly informed Rohit Sharma that he is no longer part of their Test plans beyond the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This development suggests that if India qualifies for the 2025 World Test Championship Final, Jasprit Bumrah could be leading the team against South Africa at Lord’s.

Speculation surrounding Rohit’s Test career intensified after his omission from India’s squad for the final Test in Sydney, which commenced on Friday. According to The Indian Express, the decision to exclude him was made following a meeting between Rohit, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar.

The report further indicated that similar discussions regarding the future will be held with Virat Kohli after the conclusion of the Sydney Test. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, who retired alongside Kohli and Rohit from T20Is last year, remains secure in the Test setup due to the value of his experience.
