Ex-Aus Cricketer Feels Rohit Won’t Be Travelling To England For Test Matches

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist believes Rohit Sharma’s time in Test cricket is over. The 37-year-old right-handed batter is unlikely to travel to England with Team India for the five-match Test series starting on June 20 in Leeds.

Despite being India’s leading run-scorer in the World Test Championship (WTC), Rohit has struggled with form in the last two Test series. He managed only 91 runs in the three-match home series against New Zealand and 31 runs in five innings during three Tests against Australia. His poor performance with the bat led him to opt out of the fifth Test, which India lost by six wickets inside three days.

Gilchrist suggested that Rohit will reassess his situation after returning to India and might consider ending his red-ball career, which began with back-to-back centuries in November 2013 against the West Indies at home.

While speaking on a podcast, Adam Gilchrist said, “I don’t see Rohit going to England. I just felt that he says he will assess it when he gets home. I mean, the first thing he will be met with when he gets home is a two-month-old baby that he has to change the nappies on. Now that might incentivise him to go to England. But I don’t see him pressing on.”

Do you agree with Adam Gilchrist?
