The former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, father of celebrated cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has sparked controversy with his remarks about Aamir Khan’s highly acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par.
In a conversation with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia on the show Unfiltered by Samdish, Yograj criticized the movie, calling it “wahiyat” (worthless) and shared his personal views on parenting and raising children.
Expressing his strong beliefs about the role of fathers in a child’s development, Yograj stated that a child’s future is primarily shaped by the father’s guidance. He remarked, “Baccha woh he banega jo Baap kahega,” emphasizing that children should follow their father’s direction in life. When the topic shifted to Taare Zameen Par, Yograj dismissed the film, describing it as “badi hi wahiyat” and adding that he avoids watching such movies.
Taare Zameen Par, released in 2007 and directed by Aamir Khan, is a deeply moving drama that portrays the struggles of Ishaan Awasthi, an 8-year-old boy dealing with dyslexia. The story explores Ishaan’s journey of self-discovery and empowerment, aided by his compassionate art teacher, played by Khan. The film was celebrated for its sensitive depiction of learning disabilities and its powerful message about recognizing and nurturing the individuality of every child.
Yograj’s comments have sparked debate, contrasting his traditional views on parenting with the film’s progressive narrative of understanding and supporting children’s unique talents and challenges.
