The political thriller Game Changer, featuring Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, and SJ Suryah, has made a significant mark at the box office since its release. Directed by Shankar, the film opened to strong domestic collections and was initially hailed as a promising entry among South India’s top-grossing films. However, the movie has recently become the center of controversy, with filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma questioning the legitimacy of its reported earnings.
The producers of Game Changer claimed that the film amassed an impressive Rs 186 crore globally on its opening day, positioning it among the highest Indian film openings, trailing behind blockbusters like Pushpa 2, Baahubali 2, and RRR. However, trade analysts presented a different picture, estimating the actual opening-day earnings to be closer to Rs 80–100 crore.
Ram Gopal Varma voiced his criticism on social media, expressing skepticism over the inflated box office numbers. He sarcastically praised the genuine accomplishments of successful South Indian films such as Baahubali, RRR, and KGF 2, emphasizing that exaggerated claims for Game Changer diminish the credibility of these genuine successes. Varma also raised doubts about the reported Rs 450 crore budget of Game Changer, arguing that if such figures were accurate, a visually grand spectacle like RRR would have demanded an even higher production cost.
