Mumbai Police on Tuesday recreated the crime scene with Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, the accused arrested in the knife attack on Saif Ali Khan at the Bollywood’s actor residence in upscale Bandra.
In the early hours of the investigation, a team of 20 officials arrived at Khan’s Satguru Sharan building around 5:30 am, accompanied by four police vans. They spent an hour on the premises, during which they collected 19 fingerprints. Later, the police took the accused to the Bandra railway station to trace his movements, as he had taken a train to Dadar before sleeping near a garden after the attack. The accused was eventually brought back to the Bandra police station for further interrogation.
As the investigation progressed, the Mumbai police reconstructed the crime scene and revisited locations the accused had frequented while evading capture. Their findings revealed unsettling details. During the attack on January 16, four male staff members were reportedly present in the house but failed to intervene when the accused stabbed Khan multiple times. The incident occurred in the early hours, necessitating a 2.5-hour surgery to save the actor’s life.
Police reports indicated that the accused had entered Khan’s Bandra West apartment with the intent to steal. While the female staffers raised alarms and took quick action, the male employees reportedly reacted with fear. One of them hid inside the house, while the others refrained from assisting the actor. In a crucial moment, the female staffers managed to lock the assailant in a room, potentially saving Khan’s life.
Authorities believe that if the male staffers had resisted or intervened during the attack, the situation could have been contained more effectively. This lapse in security nearly proved fatal, as doctors at Lilavati Hospital confirmed that Khan narrowly escaped a serious injury by mere millimeters. The incident has raised significant concerns about the security measures in place at the actor’s residence.
