WhatsApp for iOS May Soon Allow Users to Add Instagram Profile Links

According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a new feature for its iOS version that will let users link their Instagram profiles to their accounts. According to a feature tracker, the new feature is designed to allow users to display their social media profiles in one location so that their connections can quickly get in touch with them. Although the feature is still in development and beta testers will not be able to test it out just yet, it was reported to be in the most recent beta version of the iOS app.

WhatsApp Users May add Instagram Links

WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, claims that the instant messaging app is working on a feature allowing users to include links to their Instagram profiles. WhatsApp for iOS beta app version 25.2.10.72, accessible through the TestFlight test program, is where it was observed. As previously stated, this version does not yet support the feature.

The new option is being added to the Links part of the user profile page, according to a screenshot that the feature tracker published. Users can now add their Instagram username by tapping a plus icon in the section’s new Add Links option.

According to the feature tracker, users are not currently prompted to authenticate the profile they are adding. This implies that users can display their Instagram profile on their account by simply typing in their username. However, there may be privacy and identity theft issues with this implementation. Before making the service available to consumers, the corporation may add a degree of authentication.

Notably, iOS users are not required to link their Instagram profiles if they choose not to, as this feature is reportedly optional. WhatsApp business accounts can also access a similar feature. However, those users are required to manually log into their Instagram account to authenticate the profile link.

While currently, the feature is said only to allow Instagram links, WhatsApp may expand it to allow users to add other Meta accounts such as Facebook and Threads. It is unclear whether the company will enable adding profile links to third-party social media platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter) or Snapchat.
