The trend of re-releasing Bollywood films is gaining significant traction, drawing audiences back to theaters with beloved classics like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Sanam Teri Kasam. Notably, Sanam Teri Kasam has even managed to surpass its original lifetime collection within days of its re-release. Amid this revival of old favorites, speculation is now rife about the return of Jannat (2008) and Awarapan (2007), two of Emraan Hashmi’s most cherished films. The excitement was further ignited when Hashmi recently shared an animated teaser, leaving fans wondering if Awarapan 2 is in the works.
On Friday, Emraan Hashmi took to Instagram to post an animated clip featuring his iconic character from Awarapan, standing with a pigeon in a cage, gazing over a cityscape bathed in the golden hues of sunset. His distinct voiceover echoed in the background: “Maine maut ko bohot kareeb se dekha hai. Kisi aur ke zindagi ke liye marna hi meri zindagi hai.” As the melancholic strains of Toh Phir Aao followed, the teaser transitioned to a bloodied hand gripping a gun. Captioning the post with a simple “Jummah Mubarak,” Hashmi sent fans into a frenzy.
Social media erupted with excitement as fans flooded the comment section with speculation, eager to know if this was a hint at Awarapan 2. Comments such as “Awarapan 2!”, “The lord of Bollywood Emraan Hashmi is back,” and “Awarapan 2 release kab hogi?” dominated the discussion, further amplifying the anticipation surrounding the possible sequel.
Amid the swirling rumors, producer Mukesh Bhatt addressed the growing buzz regarding the re-release of Awarapan and Jannat. Speaking to News18 Showsha, he acknowledged the surging demand but stopped short of confirming anything definitive. “Oh my god! I have been hearing this from everywhere. Yes, people have been approaching me about this. But I believe in giving the audience what they truly want. The demand for re-releasing these movies is strong, and I will discuss it with my team before making any decision,” he stated.
With the renewed interest in Bollywood’s nostalgic gems, only time will tell whether Awarapan and Jannat will find their way back to the silver screen, reigniting the magic that made them cult favorites in the first place.
