Veteran actor Tinnu Anand has addressed the controversy surrounding his recent social media post in which he threatened to harm stray dogs using a hockey stick. Facing intense backlash online, Anand has defended his message, stating that it was born out of personal experience and a need for self-protection.
In a recent interview, the actor expressed visible frustration over the growing issue of stray dogs in his locality. He revealed that his daughter had to undergo surgery after an incident involving stray dogs. According to Anand, three stray dogs attacked their pet dog within their residential society. In her attempt to intervene, his daughter fell and broke her wrist, requiring two surgeries over the past month and medical expenses amounting to ₹90,000.
He said that his concerns were directed toward those who actively care for stray dogs without taking responsibility for their control. “This is absolutely what I meant because my daughter has broken her wrist and she’s been treated since the last one month and it cost me ₹90,000 for her being operated twice now. Her pet dog was attacked by 3 stray dogs in our society and in trying to save her dog she fell and broke her wrist. I want to talk to these dog lovers. If they doubt these dogs so much they feed them, they look after them, then why not put a leash on them? Ask the convenience store near the society—his delivery man has been attacked twice and now they have stopped delivering because they don’t want to be attacked by the dogs,” he explained.
Defending his earlier remarks, Anand emphasized his right to act in self-defense, especially considering his age. “I’m 80 years old and if any dog attacks me, I have every right to defend myself. That is what I meant. That is what these people should have understood anyway. Everyone’s got diuretic fingers, you know, moving towards the mobiles, typing away messages, which is fine with me because I’m ignoring it completely, because I know what I have written. This is not the first case where dogs have attacked. There are so many cases when these incidents have happened,” he added.
He also stated that, in his view, Indian law would support someone defending themselves against an animal attack, claiming that no court in the country would object if a person acted in self-defense against a stray dog.
The controversy began when Tinnu Anand posted an angry message on social media, saying, “Have come back after a horrifying shoot to be greeted by terrifying dogs barking and not knowing who to bite next… Challenge taken. Have a hockey stick to face them… am warning all dog lovers hereon… take them home OR then face my wrath… my society is given advance notice.”
While the post received sharp criticism from animal rights advocates and social media users, Anand remains unapologetic, asserting that his priority is the safety of his family and himself.
