Few designers are better at recreating the grandeur of famous Indian weddings than Sabyasachi Mukherjee. A 400-person baraat recently turned heads and stopped traffic, transforming the streets of New York City—more especially, the iconic Wall Street—into an Indian elegance runway. In the center of this festive scene? The bride stole the show in a stunning crimson Sabyasachi lehenga.

The now-viral video shows a swarm of revelers bringing the bustling financial sector to a colorful halt as they dance to a high-energy blend of Bollywood and pop sounds. However, the bride, dressed in her typical Sabyasachi outfit—a deep crimson lehenga adorned with elaborate gold zari work—was the true star of the celebration, exuding both elegance and tradition.

She had a glowing complexion, smokey eyes, and a self-assured sheen that complemented the opulence of her attire. In keeping with Sabyasachi’s style, the ensemble was a blend of royal and modern elements, reflecting the designer’s conviction that Indian tradition should be combined with contemporary luxury.

While his American groomsmen wore ethnic clothing in pink and white, the groom’s traditional ivory sherwani added a charming touch of cross-cultural appeal to the occasion.

At one point, when the baraat swayed through the streets, the groom was seen smiling and raised onto a friend’s shoulders.

This was no typical holiday. It was an exhibition of cultural flair, couture artistry, and diaspora pride. The Sabyasachi lehenga, which was worn in the center of Manhattan, came to represent the internationalization of Indian weddings and fashion.

“The first NRIs with real style AND swag Wah!” was the finest way to describe it on Instagram.

Given that Sabyasachi is at the forefront of bridal couture, it is hardly surprising that his designs continue to be worn in major cities across the globe.
