According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the number of active COVID-19 cases in India has increased to 2,710, with Kerala accounting for the most significant number of infections. After months of relative peace, coronavirus cases are on the rise across the nation. Public health officials are once again concerned as infections have increased fivefold and surpassed the 1,000 mark in the week ending May 25.

According to the state public health department, Maharashtra reported 84 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the state’s total number of cases since January 2025 to 681, PTI reported.

Over 2,000 coronavirus cases are currently active in India, with Kerala leading the way in infections, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi.

Officials emphasized in a statement that the majority of instances are minor and that the public shouldn’t be alarmed. The department reassured the public that there is sufficient infrastructure for testing and treatment throughout the state.

With 32 infections, Mumbai reported the most new COVID-19 cases, followed by Pune (19) and Thane (14). Thane district (2), Raigad (2), Navi Mumbai (1), Kalyan-Dombivli (1), Panvel (1), Nashik (1), Pune district (1), Pimpri-Chinchwad (3), Satara (2), Kolhapur district (1), Kolhapur city (1), and Sangli (3) were among the other towns and neighborhoods that reported fewer occurrences.

As of right now, Maharashtra has 467 ongoing COVID-19 instances, with 411 of those incidents occurring in Mumbai since the start of 2025.

Since January, 10,324 COVID-19 tests have been performed statewide, and 681 of those tests have come back positive.

Seven COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Maharashtra since January 1; six of the victims had co-morbidities, and one had underlying medical issues.

While warning that the current situation does not warrant concern, authorities have asked citizens to exercise caution and continue to monitor the situation closely.
