As the highly anticipated release of Sitaare Zameen Par approaches, Aamir Khan has unveiled a deeply personal and touching element that adds a unique layer to the film’s excitement. The actor recently revealed that his 90-year-old mother, Zeenat Khan, will grace the silver screen for the very first time, making a special cameo in his own movie.
This new offering, a spiritual successor to Aamir’s 2007 cinematic gem Taare Zameen Par, also features Genelia Deshmukh in a pivotal role and brings together a diverse cast of ten neurodivergent actors. However, it’s the revelation of this surprise family appearance that is truly capturing hearts, making the film even more intimate for Aamir and his loved ones.
Aamir recounted the unforgettable moment, explaining how it all unfolded unexpectedly. His mother, who had never previously expressed interest in visiting any of his film sets, one day shared a sudden desire to see where he was shooting. “I was surprised,” Aamir recalled. “She’s never asked before. But she told me one morning she wanted to come. So my sister brought her to the set in a wheelchair.”
The scene being filmed that day was a lively wedding celebration, and director RS Prasanna saw a serendipitous opportunity. He approached Aamir with a request that was both respectful and spontaneous: would his mother consider appearing as a guest in the scene?
Initially unsure of her reaction, Aamir gently proposed the idea. To his delightful surprise, she agreed.
“She was there for a few shots. It wasn’t planned at all, but it became one of the most memorable moments of the shoot. This is the only film of mine she’s ever been a part of,” he shared with visible emotion.
Adding to the family affair, Aamir’s sister will also make an appearance in Sitaare Zameen Par, marking their first on-screen collaboration. “She’s an actress herself, and who knows — maybe we’ll collaborate again,” he added.
Directed by RS Prasanna, the film continues the legacy of Taare Zameen Par, this time shining a light on the stories of neurodivergent individuals. The ensemble cast includes Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar, each bringing authentic depth to the film’s narrative of inclusion and empathy.
Slated for release on June 20, 2025, Sitaare Zameen Par is more than just another Aamir Khan film; it’s a heartfelt family milestone, a celebration of representation, and a testament to the quiet, unexpected magic that sometimes materializes when the cameras begin to roll.
