According to Apple, the Journal app will be available on iPad and Mac computers with their respective next operating system (OS) upgrades. Powered by on-device machine learning, the journaling app, which debuted with iOS 17.2 in 2023, assists users in writing down their ideas, suggests topics for writing about, and keeps a daily log. The Journal app has only been accessible on the iPhone thus far, but the Cupertino-based tech behemoth plans to add support for additional devices to its lineup shortly.
iPad and Mac Journal App
Apple gave a sneak peek at the iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26 updates for the iPad and Mac, respectively, at WWDC 2025. The business also revealed that its Journal app (Review) will now be available on the previously listed items, in addition to all the new features and enhancements to the existing ones.
Given that the software works better on both Apple devices—notably the iPad—this shift makes a lot of sense. With the iPad Journal app’s support for the Apple Pencil, users will be able to add handwriting and drawings to their entries. To add more detail, they can also include audio recordings, media files, and other components.
In contrast to the iPhone’s on-screen keyboard, Mac laptops come with a physical keyboard that provides a more natural typing experience. According to Apple, users can maintain multiple journals for various life events, and all of them will be synchronized across Apple devices. A map view that arranges diary entries according to location will also be available to them.
According to the business, the Journal app enables users to search for specific moments by applying filters for images, locations, exercises, and more. Users can also read through previous entries and bookmark them. They can lock the entries using Touch ID or Face ID to keep them safe from prying eyes. It is claimed that moments captured in the Journal app are saved to iCloud and encrypted from start to finish.
Based on user activity, the app uses on-device machine learning to produce personalized recommendations. Writing about experiences, such as new locations they’ve visited, music they’ve heard, or pictures they’ve taken, might be beneficial. Later this year, when the OS updates are issued, it will be accessible on the iPad and Mac.
