Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar took to social media on Sunday, June 22, to commend ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his exceptional five-wicket haul in England’s first innings. Bumrah’s stellar performance helped India secure a slender six-run lead on what has become an absolute batting paradise at Headingley.

Before Bumrah clean-bowled Josh Tongue to wrap up England’s innings, Chris Woakes (38 off 55 balls) had capitalized on a somewhat predictable Indian pace attack, bringing his team tantalizingly close to India’s total of 471. However, it was Bumrah who truly stood out as India’s premier bowler, claiming his 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket with impressive figures of 5/83 from 24.4 overs.

Sachin Tendulkar, recognizing Bumrah’s brilliance despite some missed opportunities, tweeted on Sunday evening: “Congratulations, Bumrah! A no-ball and 3 missed chances stood between you and nau wickets.”

This playful yet appreciative tweet highlighted that Bumrah had bowled a no-ball in his final over on Day 2, which could have dismissed Harry Brook for naught. Additionally, Indian fielders dropped three catches off Bumrah’s bowling across Days 2 and 3, denying him even more wickets.

Well played, Jasprit Bumrah!
