Cricket icon Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that actor Rajkummar Rao is his top pick to play him in an upcoming biopic, slated for a December 2026 release. Ganguly, who graced the Indian cricket team from 1992 to 2008, revealed that filming is set to kick off in January next year.
“It’s going well. It will be released next December. Shooting starts in January. The pre-production, story writing and scripting takes a lot of time. And shooting doesn’t take that much time. It’s about 3 months and then the post-production takes time,” Sourav Ganguly informed PTI, shedding light on the extensive preparation involved.
Despite his deep connection to the story, Ganguly, who boasts an impressive 18,575 runs and 38 centuries across Tests and ODIs, has no plans to lead the film himself. He believes the project is in capable hands. “I think the right person is doing it… I’ll help him with everything,” stated the former captain, widely regarded as one of India’s most successful cricketing leaders.
As of now, the film’s official title and director remain under wraps.
