It’s widely known that Arun Govil, who famously embodied the character of Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana, is set to portray Dashrath in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film adaptation of the Hindu mythological epic.

While the initial glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Ram has garnered significant positive feedback, Dipika Chikhlia, who played Sita alongside Govil in the original series, believes Arun Govil’s casting as Dashrath might seem “out of context.”

In a recent interview, Dipika shared her thoughts on Arun Govil taking on the role of Dashrath. “I have seen him as Ram, and I’ve seen myself as Sita. For me to see him as Dasarath is really a little out of context,” she stated. The actress further emphasized her sentiment, adding, “I mean, if you played Ram, then you are Ram.”

Interestingly, Dipika has previously voiced her opinion that new film adaptations of the Ramayana should cease altogether. The actress-turned-politician suggested in another interview that in their pursuit of novelty, filmmakers often inadvertently distort the beloved Hindu epic.
