Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, who recently secured a seat as a Member of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency on a BJP ticket, has spoken candidly about her initial foray into the political arena. During an interview, Ranaut shared her perspectives on the inherent challenges of her new role, admitting that politics hasn’t precisely been a source of joy for her.

“I’m getting a hang of it. I wouldn’t say that I am enjoying it (politics). It’s a very different kind of work, more like social service. This hasn’t been my background. I’ve never thought of serving people,” she stated.

Ranaut, known for her outspoken advocacy on women’s rights, clarified that her previous activism significantly differs from the responsibilities associated with public office.

She recounted how her constituents frequently approach her with localized civic issues. “I’ve fought for women’s rights, but that’s different… Somebody’s naali is broken, and I’m like, ‘But I am an MP and these people are coming to me with panchayat-level problems’. They don’t care. When they see you, they come to you with problems like broken roads, and I tell them that’s a state government issue, and they say, ‘You have money, you use your own money’,” she added, highlighting the ground-level demands she now faces.

Now, that is the Indian public for you.
