In a shocking turn of events that has rattled the South Indian film industry, actress Anju Krishna has been arrested in Chennai in connection with a significant drug case. Known for her work in Tamil and Malayalam cinema, the actress was taken into custody along with seven others following a dramatic operation by the city police.
The incident occurred in the busy Valasaravakkam area, where the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) South team executed a planned raid. Among those arrested was also Vincy Nivetha, an assistant director, pointing to a worrying link between the drug network and industry insiders.
The Tip-Off: How the Drama Unfolded
The operation wasn’t random; it was the result of a calculated police trap. According to insiders, the first domino fell when Inspector Johnny Chellappa of the ANIU South team apprehended a 33-year-old man named Vigneswaran in Nesapakkam.
During questioning, Vigneswaran reportedly revealed the source of his supply—a man named Venkatesh Kumar (31), living near Porur. Armed with this information, the police decided to set a trap.
How the Police Set the Trap
The police came up with a smart plan to catch the main supplier, Venkatesh Kumar. Instead of just waiting, they decided to trick him. They sent a person to contact Venkatesh, pretending to be a regular customer who wanted to buy drugs.
Venkatesh agreed to the deal and drove his car to a meeting spot in Valasaravakkam. He had no idea that the “customer” was actually part of a police setup. As soon as his car pulled up, the waiting officers surrounded the vehicle so no one could escape. That is when they found the whole group, including actress Anju Krishna, right there at the scene.
What the Police Found
The search of the vehicle and the individuals led to the recovery of several illegal substances. The police seized a mix of hard drugs and marijuana, indicating organized activity. The seized items included:
6 grams of Methamphetamine
7 grams of OG Ganja
15 grams of ordinary Ganja
One LSD stamp
One smoking bong
Nine mobile phones
The recovered mobile phones are now a key part of the investigation, as police hope to trace the network further through call logs and messages.
Who is Anju Krishna?
For those trying to place the face, Anju Krishna is a model-turned-actress originally from Thrissur, Kerala. She started her career in modeling and short films before moving to feature films.
She is best known for her role in the Tamil film Vellimalai and has also appeared in Malayalam projects like Aaro. She is also a familiar face to television audiences, having acted in the popular serial Priyankari on the Flowers channel. While she has worked in both industries, reports suggest she has been more active in Tamil projects recently.
Assistant Director Also Detained
The case has drawn extra scrutiny because Anju wasn’t the only film professional involved. Vincy Nivetha (26), who works as an assistant director in Tamil movies, was also arrested during the raid. The police confirmed she was with the group when the bust happened.
The other arrested individuals have been identified as Karthik Raja, Yashwanth, Sriram, and Alvibinsha, alongside the supplier Venkatesh and the initial contact Vigneswaran.
What Happens Next?
After the arrest, the ANIU team handed the group over to the Valasaravakkam police for further legal proceedings. All eight accused were produced before a magistrate court and have been sent to judicial custody.Authorities have stated that the investigation is still active. They are currently digging deeper to see if this network extends further into the city or involves other high-profile names.
