Tusshar Kapoor Opens Up About Keeping Jeetendra in the Dark
Tusshar Kapoor has made a startling revelation about his journey to fatherhood. The actor, who welcomed son Laksshya through surrogacy in 2016, recently disclosed that he never sought permission from his father, veteran star Jeetendra, before making the life-changing decision. At 39, Tusshar chose to become a single father without discussing it with his parents first.
In a candid conversation with Meri Saheli, Tusshar got real about why he took this unconventional path. “I had no pressure from my parents because I never thought of asking them. I was 39,” he stated matter-of-factly.
The Father-Son Contrast
Tusshar painted a picture of two very different worldviews under one roof. “I am very old school, similar to my father, but at the same time, we are extremely different from each other,” he explained. While Jeetendra represents traditional Indian values—believing firmly in marriage and conventional family structures—his son carved out his own definition of parenthood.
The actor spent five years in the US, where he learned to live independently. That experience shaped his thinking. “My father is not like this. He believes in marriage and having a family, he is very old school Indian,” Tusshar said, highlighting the generational gap in their perspectives.
Why Did Tusshar Kapoor Not Marry?
This is the question fans have asked for years. Tusshar finally provided clarity. “I completely believe in marriage as an institution, but it wasn’t for me. My calling was to become a father,” he shared. It wasn’t about rejecting marriage—he respects it deeply. He simply recognized that everyone’s path looks different.
The institution holds value in his eyes, but Tusshar understood that marriage isn’t meant for everyone. His priority was fatherhood, and he wasn’t going to let societal expectations dictate his timeline or choices.
The Prakash Jha Connection
Here’s where the story gets interesting. Tusshar’s decision didn’t come out of nowhere. During a flight to Tirupati, he sat next to director Prakash Jha. When their return flights got cancelled, they carpooled back together.
“On the way, he asked me, ‘If you’re not destined to be a married man, why not think of being a single parent?'” Tusshar recalled. Jha knew a single woman in his family who had embraced parenthood around the same age. That conversation planted a seed.
Tusshar didn’t rush. He called doctors, went through counselling sessions, and took it step by step. In 2016, Laksshya arrived, transforming Tusshar’s world completely.
From Golmaal to Fatherhood
The son of Jeetendra and brother of producer Ektaa Kapoor, Tusshar has had quite the Bollywood journey. He debuted with Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai in 2001 and appeared in hits like Golmaal, The Dirty Picture, Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, and Shootout at Lokhandwala.
Recently, he’s been exploring OTT platforms with projects like Dus June Ki Raat Chapter 1, Booo Sabki Phategi, and Kapkapiii. Reports suggest he’s teaming up with Prakash Jha again for the political thriller Janadesh—a full-circle moment considering Jha’s role in his fatherhood journey.
Tusshar also penned Bachelor Dad: My Journey to Fatherhood and More, sharing his experiences with others considering similar paths.
Looking Ahead
Tusshar Kapoor’s story challenges traditional Bollywood narratives about family. By choosing single fatherhood on his own terms, he’s opened conversations about alternative parenting in India. Whether Jeetendra has fully embraced this unconventional choice remains private, but Tusshar’s confidence in his decision speaks volumes. His journey proves that family doesn’t always follow a script—sometimes you write your own.
